| Tutoring Experience: | I was a half time university lecturer between Jan 2007 and Dec 2010. I was the personal tutor for first year social work students which meant that I had a role in tutoring them through the process of writing their first essay at degree level. I also supervised final year dissertation students and designed and delivered my own module. I have also designed and delivered courses in participatory appraisal (peer interviewing for social research) to secondary school and six form pupils (2005). |

| Tutoring Approach: | My methods of teaching have been influenced by the time that I spent working at the Centre For Excellence in Teaching and Learning (Assessment for Learning) in 2006. This means that I use continuous formative assessment (e.g. discussion activities designed to test understandings and depth of engagement with the subject). I encourage students to reflect on their own learning, re-phrase assignment tasks in their own words and make use of personal experiences as a way in to the subject. |
